Our aim at Design Haos is to create unique, forward-thinking designs using appropriate materials that are customised to every building, budget, and timeframe we work on.

We appreciate the investment each client makes in our ability and work collaboratively with them from start to finish. This emphasises an aligning principle guiding our team for each project of unity.

In the Hawaiian language, unity means huipu - to mix up and come together and this philosophy lights the way for our clients.  We use the acronym, L.U.G. Listen. Understand. Guide as the cornerstones of each interaction with our clients to make sure they are getting the best out of us and we gain the most from them, always mixing, always uniting.  Learn more in 'your experience'.

  • What is a Building Designer?
A building designer is your visionary partner in crafting beautiful buildings. We possess deep knowledge and the creative flair + technical prowess to bring your dreams to life, ensuring every detail reflects your style and functionality needs. Building designers are creative professionals who specialise in conceptualising and creating designs for residential and commercial buildings. Have a blend of artistic vision and technical expertise to bring clients' ideas to life, while considering factors like functionality, aesthetics, and budget. Building designers work closely with clients throughout the design process, from initial concepts to final blueprints.
  • How do Registered Building Designers Compare to an Architect?
While there isn't a versus or competition space here, it is worth acknowledging there IS a difference between an good, registered architect and a good, registered building designer. Our brief list of differences below, is shadowed by the fact that both roles do most of the same work on their projects. The exception is that architects are usually registered to work on more complex projects, such a multi-story buildings above 3 stories and may have more education in building philosophy. However, and this is super important, that doesn't mean all building designers are not well versed in design too! What it boils down to is, do your research. Ask around. Not all architects are the same, not all building designers are the same. On the website realestate.com.au it suggests architects are creative people who must legally be identified as a professional architect: have a formal tertiary education/degree in architecture; be covered by the necessary liability insurance; be officially registered as an architect with the governing architecture body in their state or territory. Undercover Architect adds more in saying that registered architects are also constantly acquiring more skills in their professional development. She also continues by saying that a registered building designer must complete a recognised, government approved training to gain their Building Designer license. Undercover Architect also suggests that due to study experience, most architects have a greater knowledge on design due to sheer quantity of time spent training. But does explain that this training doesn't mean individual building designers don't also have that skill, it just isn't always part of their training. Finally, registered building designers usually continue to develop their skills to uphold their skills. Again, ask questions, check credentials and even more important is to chat with them. Find out their passions and work style and see if that fits your goals.
